Output mp4 format that is the same ratio of hdmi screen?

I've always created files for use with a mobile device.

Now I am trying to create an mp4 output file that when played on an HDMI monitor uses full screen.

However, every format I have tried ends up putting space at the top and bottom of the screen and when I play it on the HDMI screen it does too.

If I just play the ISO on the HDMI screen using another device it is full screen.

So what format should I be using that doesn't end up looking like:



For what it is worth, I am putting these files onto a Raspberry Pi which I currently don't have it setup to play ISO's, so I am playing mp4's instead.

Apparently, the tool I am using to play the videos is itself not going full screen but leaves a border. So perhaps it is not the encoding.
