Default AnyDvd Trial version won't play Shoot Em Up B-D

Hi,

I've just got me hands on an LG GGW H20L, and the Blu Ray disk Shoot Em Up (region 2), but my attempts to play it using Cyberlink's PowerDvd Ultra failed miserably, with PowerDvd just closing after pressing play (both the version supplied with the drive and version 7.3). It wouldn't even play DVDs in my DVD drive (Windows Media player would). Trying to play back via VGA to non-HDCP monitor, the HDCP test thing supplied with PowerDvd said everything should be fine.....hmm.....

So I decided to give AnyDvd a go. I downloaded the trial version to see if it could rip it, partly to check the disk is ok (its the only Blu-Ray I've got at the mo), and partly to see if AnyDvd is better at handling any shifty encryption methods than OEM freebie players), and AnyDvd told me a critical element needed updating. I clicked OK to the update, only for AnyDvd to tell me that as it's a trial version, I'm not allowed updates!

So at the mo' I've got no player, no ripper, no checked disk, and can't find out if the software that might solve the problem actually solves the problem, or just joins in on ruining my weekend.

Am currently trying an iso rip using imgburn just to see if the disk and drive work.

I'm using Windows XP Home (SP2)
Core 2 Duo 6750
2 gig RAM
ATi 1950Pro PCI-E 256MB with latest ATI drivers (Catalyst 8.1)

The AnyDvd log said:
------
Summary for drive L: (AnyDVD 6.3.1.2)
HL-DT-ST BD-REGGW-H20L YL01 06101907157CBA5336
Drive (Hardware) Region: 2

Media is a Blu-Ray disc.
Total size: 24160480 sectors (47188 MBytes)
Video Blu-Ray label: SHOOTEMUP
Media is AACS protected!
Sorry, but trial versions are not allowed to use the update server!
ERROR processing Blu-Ray disc!
------

...and the filters say:
LowerFilters AnyDvd
UpperFilters GEARAspiWDM

Any advice gratefully received, or alternatively could someone just pass me a bat?

Buy AnyDVD HD and PowerDVD.

Get yourself version 3319a and downgrade to that version (seems to work for most people) and your good to go.

Goodluck.

Buying AnyDVD will do the trick for this disc:
Sorry, but trial versions are not allowed to use the update server!

Correct me if I am wrong, I was in impression for DVD to process or decrypt AnyDVDHD shouldn't need contact update server. So my question is why it was trying to establish connection with update server.

Kindly shed light on this topic

If an MKBv4 key for a Blu-ray or HD DVD disc isn't in its internal database, it asks our server for help, which cracks the disc in realtime for you.

Well. Hmmm. So far I've bought a blu-ray player. Seen nothing. It comes with PowerDvd Ultra. It won't play anything. At all (dvds or blu-rays). Loaded the 'Trial' edition of AnyDvd (the purpose of the Trial edition being to demonstrate its functionality), and all its demonstrated so far is the ability to tell me to 'Give us your money or Sod Off' (I seem to recall there being an awful lot of programs that can do that). Now whilst I realise I might just be unlucky (most people are when f*%$ing computers are involved), I can't say I'm busting to spend 60 quid on a piece of software that has shown me no functionality whatsoever (except the extremely well-executed 'Sod Off'), and then to find out it does as much as PowerDvd did (a program which an awful lot of people here appear to use quite merrily).

Power Dvd seems to work for most people, but it doesn't for me. I suppose I should abandon the AnyDvd idea and just try to get PowerDvd to stop crashing (as I supposedly have the necessary gear to play blu-rays anyway).

Ho hum.

Thanks anyway.

Get an older BR title, or wait until the demo has been updated with that title. You're trying to play a brand new title, that while crackable, isn't crackable with the demo.

Fix your issues with Cyberlink.
Get an older BR to try.
Eventually by AnyDVD HD.

We're not all customers because we're retarded, we're customers because it works.

I installed my GGC-H20L with the OEM PowerDvd but it comes with an an old version (2104 IIRC) - maybe yours is old too (don't know what comes with the GGW) - mine didn't work either on first install.

I updated to a patch provided for LG OEM users (contacted Cyberlink customer support and asked for one), they gave me a link to a Sept. 2007
CyberLink_PowerDVD_73_PATCH_for_OEM_LG.exe
download and then it worked fine (after installing this patch it also offered an autoupdate to an even later Nov. 2007 v.3514 which I installed as well - this is the latest version available for OEM). Also updated the LG firmware to 1.02 (yours should be YL02).

If you haven't updated PowerDVD try that first.
