Default HD DVD software player

Searching using the above phrase didn't net much, so I'll post here. Please keep nonconstructive comments to yourself.

I was wondering if the SlySoft crew (or anyone else for that matter) would be working on an HD DVD (not Bluray) software player. Since it's a more or less defunct platform, it doesn't seem there would be a great deal of resistance from Toshiba, et al.

Since Cyberlink has stated they won't support HD DVD from their version 8 and moving forward, I don't imagine that ArcSoft will continue support for it on their software moving into the future. Basically, I'm looking for a player that wouldn't be tied to these companies and their whims of development anyway. I'm sure the general consensus in the industry is that HD DVD adopters will just have to dump their investments and re-acquire those movies on Blu-ray.

I'm NOT looking for a free player. I would be more than happy to purchase, particularly from SlySoft, given their record of excellent support (I own a copy of AnyDVDHD)

I realize there are a dozen different ways to jury-rig a player that could manage HD DVD, but none of them are really desirable alternatives to a stand alone player.

Any development plans on that route?

why not just leave PowerDVD 7.3 installed, it doesn't interfere with version 8 and plays HD DVD's fine

I don't have a problem doing that, except that it leaves me (and countless others who've bought Cyberlink) at the mercy of Cyberlink developers, who at some point down the road could decide; "Hey, why don't we just make the next version/update disable any previous installations since they interfere with our current software." I'm sure the first response to such a notion would be "oh, they wouldn't do that." To that I say, where is the hard-drive playback capability that used to be present in their software player?

Nevertheless, this is getting off topic. As stated not-to-clearly above, the main reason for this question/request is having an HD-DVD software player that is independent of other bundled software solutions from one company. In my opinion, the SlySoft folks seem to be the best qualified to create such a product. I'm simply curious to know if they are interested in creating such a thing.

When I searched for 'player', I found several posts where someone mentioned within the context of a different question that they would like a player. Most either don't get very specific, or they want a player that does everything, or they want one for free.

Now there is a thread that specifically mentions it in the title with detail to boot; this one.

I'm not looking to start yet another thread on currently available ways to achieve HD DVD playback, or whether or not it's wise to ask. I'm simply hoping that one of the SlySoft staff or developers will be able to give feedback to a direct request.

My apologies to those who feel this is a nonsensical request.

i believe you can install ffdshow which would install all the things you need and then be able to watch anything through windows media player.
