Default Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.0.4 beta

Finally, a unified Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/XP64/Vista/Vista64 version.

http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/Setu...eDrive5404.exe

This should (hopefully) fix all problems from the previous beta.

Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.0.4: 2008 07 14
- New: Added support for Windows Vista 64
- Many internal changes and improvements
- Updated languages

Default VCD 5.4.0.4 – A big improvement!

OK – I uninstalled VCD 5.4.0.3 and rebooted. I deleted the empty VCD directory, then installed VCD 5.4.0.4. I went to the VCD directory and checked the compatibility mode. To my surprise, all the EXE files were set to XP SP2 compatibility mode just like I had left the old EXE files in the old installation. I turned off the compatibility mode for all the EXE files then rebooted.

After rebooting I checked once again the compatibility mode and it was off as it should be. I check to see if the physical DVD was working and it is fine. I then went to my ISO files and double clicked one. It ran perfectly! Over the next hour I ran 3 ISO’s (simply by double clicking the ISO) and things ran great. I did find one odd “quirk.”

When I start an ISO I get the option window, Play using Media Player, Play using Media center, etc. I chose Media Player 11 each time. It starts the ISO in full screen mode. The quirk is when I move the mouse over any of the Media Player controls (see attached image #1) the film suddenly hesitates, nearly skipping, and sometimes the sound gets out of synch a little. When I leave the mouse over the control and do not move the mouse, it smoothes out. This only happens in full screen mode and only if the mouse is moving. In Window mode it is perfect. I can open other programs and I see no evidence the video is changing even when it is in the front and I move the mouse over the controls. I never see the CPU using more than about 15% and memory is using about 35%. For my machine this is fine.

Ultimately I went on and tried Media Center and it worked perfectly in all respects. James it’s an outstanding improvement – 99% there!

Rosetta Stone is working as a mounted image under Vista x64. I couldn't get this working with Daemon Tools or Alcohol, and thought I'd be stuck with the damned disc in my drive forever. Virtual CloneDrive? First try.

It's great, like having an old friend back.

Does this fix the kick-back of the last beta in Vistax64? I couldn't get it to release mounted ISOs.

Why don't you try?

Be sure you're unmounting, not just ejecting. Ejecting does not close the image file(s). I verified that unmounting is working properly with .ccd images at the least.

Correct. This is by design. A program can send "eject" to VCD and "load tray". VCD will open / load the "virtual tray", but it won't close an opened image file.

Under Vista Ultimate 64bit.. Install fine, reboot fine, images mount and unmount fine. I do not have XP 64bit installed yet, I will try and get it running and check it for you.

So far so good. This is program is one of the main thing I missed when I went to the 64Bit versions of windows. NICE JOB Guys!!!

Game Jackal and Virtual Clone Drive working under 64Bit systems

Under XP 64Bit. Installs good, reboots good, mounts ISOs (it took 20 sec. for the first one, then it was about 2 sec. after that). Now I need to make some ISOs and give the thing a good workout.

Thumbs up Works Great On XP 64

I just tried v5.4.0.4 on my XP 64 system and everything seems to work flawlessly. Mounted and dismounted multiple ISOs without a hitch.

Thank you very much for providing an update that supports XP64. You guys rock!
