I have anydvd but I want to get anydvd hd. Would I need to buy a new computer that has a bluray drive? Or can I just hook an external bluray burner to my old computer and burn discs? Then just take out the disc and play it in my HD tv?
I wont want to view the bluray movie on my computer, just my tv. thanks so much if you can help |

when i first bought my blu-ray i discovered i had a problem. 1st off my PC was an old P4 with no SATA, so an external drive was my choice. Then my GFX card couldn't handle the images anyway, and a new AGP card with HW acceleration needed a new power supply - which was not possible for a DELL.
the solution i choose was a media jukebox, rip with the PC and then view with the TV. i've got one from DIVCO (TVIX M6500a) with hardware decoding. It's very nice indeed. I've got all my HD-DVD collection on there, most of the BDs and some of my DVDs and TV recording too. There are others on the market to fit all pockets: Popcorn hour WD Tv (seems not to be able to play VC1) Last edited by mike_r; 22nd December 2008 at 03:43. |

Well to actually answer your questions, no you don't need to buy a new computer, as long as you have about 100GB of space on the harddrive then you can just use an external Blu-ray writer hooked up through USB 2.
I'm assuming you have a Blu-ray player already attached to you TV. You have to make sure it'll play BD-r and BD-re discs otherwise nothing you make will play anyway. If you want to make Discs that are at the moment also fully compliant with playback in PowerDVD then check out the link in my Signature (which is why I advised having 100GB free space). this guide also helps in making them more compliant with settop players, but I'd advise borrowing a written disc off a friend(preferably Dual Layer) to check your standalone is BD-writable compliant |
