Exclamation 3rd Movie In a Row Erroring Out..Rightous Kill

Not sure whats going on ... this is the 3rd movie in a row I have had issues with (coincidentally after installing Norton AntiVirus 2009)...but I have successfully ripped Chronicles of Narnia post-install, so thinking it can't be that.

Attached is the log file. If you prefer me to post the log file in here rather than as an attachment, let me know...kind of new here, so dont know the prefered protocol.

Thanks for help,
Scott

PS: I had the problem with Blade Runner and Bangkok Dangerous last week...those never did work. I even tried them on a separate install of Vista on the same machine.
Attached Files
File Type: zip AnyDVD_Info_G_RIGHTEOUS_KILL.zip (114.3 KB, 8 views)

Question Setting check + more info

The incomplete status information tells me you may have some setting conflicts in AnyDVD. Left click the tray fox and click "defaults" please and try that again.

If this still fails then please give us the exact error message you see.

"Having issues" is like calling your doctor and saying "I need a doctor".
What is exactly happening?

Backed up Rightous Kill to movie only yesterday with no issues. So AnyDVD works with it fine.

If you had the same issue on multiple systems then the problem may be the discs themselves or a common piece of software installed on both systems.

Nonetheless, from your logs I notice you have a filter installed that has caused problems for some people. It couldn't hurt for you to remove this filter to see if it also resolve your problem.

  1. Create a backup of your registry. Refer here for how to do so: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
  2. Download ImgBurn (freeware) here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download.
  3. Start ImgBurn and go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order....
  4. Select "PxHlpa64". Click Remove Selected Filter. Click OK.
  5. Reboot

Whatever program installed that filter may no longer work properly. If you reinstall the software that installed the filter then the filter will be installed on your system again.

Do as I have advised, reboot your computer, and please create and post a new set of log files. Now test to see if the problem remains.

Technically its the same machine - I put a fresh install of Vista x64 as I was trying to solve an issue with XP no longer seeing the BR drive. Out of the box the drive would only be seen by the bios in about 1 out of every 3-5 boots (yes, I have the latest bios)...so I would cycle through POSTs seeing if it was detected. When the POST showed the drive in the list of drives, I let it boot into XP like normal. Only recently has XP not seen the drive.

I was having ripping problems with two disks prior to XP not seeing the drive, and tried Vista to see if it would detect it - and it does - but now I am back to my original problem of ripping to HDD failing. I will follow the troubleshooting posts of yourself and Frank and let you know how it goes.

I am almost leaning to a bad drive - just happened so coincendentally at the same time I put on NAV.

Also, when browsing the BR disks directly in explorer, it fails to let me copy some files manually - the same files that bomb out when AnyDVD is in the process of the rip. But statistically thats not very probable...3 consecutive bad disks when I had successfully ripped probably a dozen? It is baffling me...

That all said, I will fire up a rip tonight and post my results...

Thanks again for your help.

Your description does sound like a possible drive issue, yes. If you are sporadically having issues with the drive being detected by the BIOS and such then this goes deeper than just a software issue. Even NAV wouldn't cause issues with the detection of a drive by the BIOS.

You could try experimenting by uninstalling AnyDVD HD and then trying to copy the files over manually and seeing if the problem still occurs. You could also remove NAV and see if the problem still occurs.

In the end, I think the issue is deeper and if I were in your situation I'd not be happy with my BD drive. Make sure the cables both power & data are securely connected on both ends. You might even try switching the port in which you have the drive connected to your motherboard.

Frank - the specific error is "Error reading from drive G:!" - happens at the same exact spot every time. Got the same error with both Blade Runner & Bangkok Dangerous...

Anyway, thought I would get back to you - FWIW. About to attempt a rip of Narnia (again - it has worked in the past), Spiderman 3 & Dark Knight...

Cool BD is "pass/fail"

Thanks for all the info. The sudden "failure to read" is the pass/fail escape for reading a BluRay disc as opposed to the multitude of messages one sees for the same scenario with a DVD.

1. If this "read" error occurs in different places on different discs this is most likely an issue with your drive, the cable, etc.

2. If this "read" error occurs in the same place on a specific disc, it's the disc and nothing can save you here. With BD, it's strictly a go/no-go process.
