Question [Resolved] Problem ripping "Visions Of Israel"

I was never able to successfully rip this DVD to my hard drive. I tried 6.5.5.9 and then the latest beta 6.5.6.1. The first problem showed up in the ripping window as "Repairing defective DVD structure..."

After that, after going through 99% of the rip, the process aborted. I elected NOT to delete the files, however NO FILES WERE LISTED in the VIDEO_TS folder!

Next, on another try, I noticed the following ("Clip2.jpg") .

Lastly, I'm attaching the log file, as requested.

Please help. Can this DVD be ripped?
Attached Files
File Type: zip AnyDVD_6.5.6.1_Info_F_Visions of Israel.zip (63.7 KB, 6 views)

A few recommendations:

You aren't using the default AnyDVD settings. When running into problems it is always advised that people use the default settings because with some discs not using the default settings can cause problems with playback and decryption.

Reset the default settings:
  1. Right-click on the fox icon in the systray
  2. Select Settings...
  3. Click the Default button on the left bottom corner of the AnyDVD preferences window.
  4. Click OK

You have a known problematic filter installed. I strongly recommend removing it. Refer here for an incomplete list of known problematic filters: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=15536.

clbstor (system32\drivers\clbstor.sys), Version: 5.0.0.3004 (5.0.0.3004)
Company: Cyberlink Co.,Ltd.
Copyright: Copyright(C) Cyberlink Co.,Ltd.
Description: Cyberlink Storage Helper Driver (WindowsNT5.x)
FileVersion: 5.0.3004
ProductVersion: 5.0.3004
Remove the filter:
  1. Create a backup of your registry. Refer here for how to do so: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
  2. Download ImgBurn (freeware) here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download.
  3. Start ImgBurn and go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order....
  4. Select "clbstor". Click Remove Selected Filter. Click OK.
  5. Reboot

Whatever program installed the filter may no longer work properly. Reinstall the piece of software that originally installed the filter to get things working again if necessary.

After rebooting create and post a new set of log files. Also try ripping the DVD to your HDD again to see if the problem still exists.

Shiny, silvery-gray.

I tried DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, as well as AnyDVD and all were unsuccessful. They all, however, work on other discs very well. The only one that went to completion was DVD Decrypter but the result was filled with "stuttering" picture and sound.

Funny thing, the DVD contained the following files, in addition to the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS...

autorun.inf
ESERGLPX.EXE
RGASDEV.SYS

Any thoughts?

I am NOT going to try the method recommended above simply because I don't believe that all that effort is warranted (since all decrypters fail for different reasons) nor do I want to affect other programs. I'm convinced that the copy protection on this disc is more complex than others (my un-informed opinion!).

Thanks for all the help.
Marty

Rootkit? Perhaps you need to zip up these files and let James take a look.

You shouldn't disregard advice from the people who know what they're talking about. It tends to annoy them and the you don't get more help.

Possible, but I doubt it.

Did you insert the disc without AnyDVD running? If yes, a rootkit like anti copy protection might have been installed on your machine.

Always, always, always leave AnyDVD installed & running at all times.

Can you please use CloneDVD and post a CloneDVD log? Thank you.

The method Drinklyeanddie posted is about as easy as things get. Don't expect help from me in the future if you refuse to do what Drinklyeanddie wrote. Uninstall Cyberlink's Instantburn (add/remove programs), and ensure clbstor doesn't appear in your registry. It's crap.

(since all decrypters fail for different reasons)
Cyberlink's Instanburn packet writing software can affect all decypters. And dvd decrypter is mostly useless now. No one should be using it.

And do what James wrote.

Provide the Clonedvd log file after Clonedvd has finished--or after you receive an error message:

i)In the white area under the tab labelled "Log", right click and select "save as".
ii)Select where you want to save the log, and then save it.
iii) The log will be a .txt file. Zip it up using Winzip or another program. If the text file is small enough, you should be able to upload it anyway. Otherwise, use Winzip.
iv) When replying or posting in the Slysoft forums, look for the icon that looks like (in other words, look for the paperclip after clicking "quote" or when creating a new thread)
v) If you don't see that paperclip icon, click the "go advanced" button. You should see that icon now. Click the paperclip.
vi) A small pop-up screen should appear (if it doesn't please ensure your browser is enabled to allow pop-ups from the Slysoft forums)
vii) Click the "Browse" button, and locate and select the .zip file (or .txt file) that you created.
viii) click "upload"
ix) Close the window. When you submit reply, or submit a new thread, the .zip file will be attached automatically for us to take a look at

So, yes, chances are you have Macrovision junk running on your system in addition to the packet writing junk Drinklyeanddie mentioned. Not a good combination.

You should always have Anydvd running on your system before inserting discs.

Fine by me. I won't be wasting my time offering you any assistance in the future. You did come here asking for help and the empirical evidence is overwhelming that bad filters can cause problems. Even if it is not the root cause of the problem now it likely will at a later time.
