Default Permission

I am not able to save AnyDVD update 6.6.0.9 to my "AnyDVD" folder. When I attempt to do so I receive a message that I do not have permission to save in that location. I am offered an opportunity to save the update in another folder. I have never experienced a problem with update installations before. I am the Administrator and sole user of this computer. Assistance please.

When do you get this error? You say save so that makes me think you are trying to download it from SlySoft's web site and when you tell it where you want it and hit save you get this error.

I responded to a SlySoft email that included a link to the AnyDVD update,
http://www.slysoft.com/download.html
From there I clicked "AnyDVD & AnyDVD HD" in the "Download" column. Then I was presented with "Run", Save" and "Cancel" options. I selected "Save." I then directed the download to my "AnyDVD" folder and clicked "Save" again. It was then I received the message.
This process has always worked for me before.

Just to be sure.. you don't mean the "C:/Program Files/Slysoft/AnyDVD" folder right?

Save the file anywhere you like. It is a setup program, start if by double-clicking it.

I think he's saying that his download window would not let him save it at all in his usual folder. That's what's strange.

If the "usual folder" is "C:/Program Files/Slysoft/AnyDVD" (or a similar path, which I believe it is) this isn't really a surprise... Vista and W7 won't allow you to write there as standard user.

That's why I asked him the question I did. Just in case.

I just download it to my /My Documents/Drivers folder

When I first installed "AnyDVD" I created a folder c:/Program Files/AnyDVD for it. I've been including all updates into that same folder ever since with no difficulties encountered. But then I was using Windows Vista. Now I have Windows 7.

I checked Permission settings in my AnyDVD Properties. They are identical to permission settings in similar folders and designate me as the Administrator.

I went directly to the Slysoft download web page and tried to download the update from there rather than from the link provided by SlySoft in my email. Same results.

You need a new folder. Windows 7 will not allow you to modify the contents of C:/Program Files - Perod. That folder is for installed programs - not storage of setup files. Downloading to that folder is / was / remains a "bad idea".
the only changes made to that folder should be by running software installers or using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Make a new AnyDVD folder in My Documents - Download to there and then double-click the download to run the installer. The actual install destination will not be harmed or affected.
