I have just started using ANYDVD HD to rip movies, and all seemed OK until I put a Region 1 DVD disk in the Drive. Using both PowerDVD or TMT, I get the region error page and cant play the disk, though AnyDVD clearly tried, it does not work. I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS, and latest 6.6.32 ANYDVD HD release.
Can Someone suggest what might be wrong? Below is summary Summary for drive D: (AnyDVD 6.6.3.2) SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L SB00 1126 Drive (Hardware) Region: 2 Media is a DVD. Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite) Size of first Layer: 1770176 sectors (3457 MBytes) Total size: 3401536 sectors (6643 MBytes) Video DVD (or CD) label: DVD_VIDEO Media is CSS protected! Video Standard: PAL Media is region free. Structural copy protection not found. Found & removed RCE protection! Changed firstplay: Jump directly to TitleMenu! Autorun not found on Video DVD. Bad sector protection not found. Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 2! |

PAL will not play in a Region 1 player. I had the same issue recently until I realized it was a PAL DVD and not AnyDVD's fault. AnyDVD does not convert to NTSC as of yet.

I think it is because something is getting in between ANYDVD and the playing programme. Just deinstalled ImageBurn, but still got the same problem |

you need to set the DVD region on AnyDVD to the region of the disc. Should do the trick. You can safely reinstall IMGBurn as it has nothing to do with AnyDVD, PowerDVD or TMT3
Also untick this box Quote:
enabling this option can render discs unplayable.

Also I now don't think its entirely because the disk is Region 1, as I can play another region 1 disk OK, the disk I am having probems with is Region 1 Finding Forester which I beleive uses the RCE scheme, because I keep getting the map. Having set the drive to Region 1 I've tried a rip and it works, but still would like clirification of whats supposed to be done. Last edited by burtonpark; 4th April 2010 at 18:01. |

When you rip the disc, then yes the region code will be removed. You can then safely backup the disc and play it on any standalone tv player or pc drive. It does also remove the region code on the fly (see the status window), but to do this correctly. AnyDVD still needs to be set to the disc's region. Otherwise you risk getting the problem you've had.
I'm not sure if its due to the RCE but the RCE scheme (Region Code Enhanced) can be what caused this, as its an added "protection" layer to the standard region code protection. Most discs only have RC and not RC + RCE, wich can be why your other R1 discs played fine.

According to your summary: Quote:
But then this raises another question of its stated as Region Free? Then it shouldn't matter what region your player is set to, right?

The "region free" statement you're reading is normal for RCE discs. They were encoded as "region free" to trick early region-free players; a script then read the player's region and provided the movie if correct, or a "map of the world" screen if incorrect. Though some region-free players can now defeat RCE automatically, the only 100% foolproof way to defeat RCE is to set the correct region before inserting the disc; that's why the solution was to make AnyDVD's default region same as the disc. (That's also why the studios abandoned RCE; it proved too easy to defeat.) |
