Hi all,
Having a problem ripping Shameless Season 7 to iso files. The first two discs have taken about an hour to rip (normally a DVD takes about 13-15 min on my computer), and, the files appear in Windows Explorer as 25GB in size! I am using CloneDVD. If I open the discs in CloneDVD Mobile, I can see the 4 x 46 min episodes plus about 90 video titles of 0.00 duration most with "1 AC3/2 EN, AC3/2 EN" in the Chapters /Audio settings, or 1 or 2 chapters and no audio settings. The ripped iso's play back in VLC player but take up an awful lot of my limited storage space. Any suggestions, or is it something for slysoft (ie. have the DVD manufacturers been playing with the copy protection and come up with something new - if not wholly successful). Regards, Allan |

Hi James.
Thanks for responding. I'm using CloneDVD2. I use it when ripping TV series with multiple episodes so that I can retain the menu structure etc. I use the "write existing data" function. Have done so successfully with about 300 discs. You can't select the chapters you want in this function, just copy the whole disc. Are you suggesting using the 'copy DVD titles' option. If so, how do I get the menus structure along with the episodes? I have experienced something similar once before with the discs in a local show called Underbelly II. Like Shameless it showed up in CloneDVD (and Windows Explorer) with many, many chapters, all with no duration. Took forever to rip and a huge file was produced. I posted it here and slysoft released a fix. I assumed it was the same sort of thing. Regards, Allan |

Of course! "Write existing data" is a bad choice. Or use the "Clone DVD" option.
Just tick the "keep menus" checkbox. Maybe you want to take a look at CloneDVD's manual.

Thanks James.
What can I say, yeah, I do know that the 'write existing data' is a bad option but I have found it reliable and just got into the habit of its 'one click' operation when embarking on ripping my entire DVD collection ;-) I shall give the other options a try, and, (blush) have another look at the manual - it's been a while. Thanks again. Allan Last edited by bigkid; 1st June 2010 at 21:20. |

All done.
Managed to rip the four episodes on each disc to a single iso image using the 'Clone DVD' option, deselecting unwanted chapters and selecting to keep menu structure. The only hassle being the need to manually deselect about 90! pseudo-chapters with 0.00 duration. When looking at the discs in windows explorer there are about 14 vob files of over 1GB and all exactly the same size, there are also a number of others around 900MB. Clearly files this many files of this size cannot fit on a DL DVD. I therefore still suspect an unsuccessful attempt (albeit that it could fool the 'Write Existing Data' function) to frustrate ripping. James, can I send you any information about the DVDs that would assist AnyDVD/CloneDVD in reading the disc files correctly? One other thing, out of interest, can you tell me why using 'Write Existing Data' is not recommended for making an iso of a DVD but 'Clone DVD'. I ask as I have used it successfully on hundreds of occasions Thanks. Appreciate your advice. Allan |

Thanks James.
The Manual is my next stop. Do you have time to comment on why the 'Write existing data' is not recommended and why explorer and AnyDVD/CloneDVD seem to see fraudulent files (files that cannot really exist in the sizes that they do) on the Shameless discs? Regards, Allan |
