Well isn't THAT a good time. sigh. I want to set my dad up with a good media streaming device for his house so he can put his BD collection on his desktop machine as MKV's and stream them, but, if he's going to run into Cinavia I'll have to look elsewhere. Popcorn Hour perhaps.

FWIW, Losers (backed up copy) played without a hitch in my Oppo BD83 player. Will be cautious about any future updates on the player (although they are rarely needed with the Oppo).

Same reason PS3 is detecting Cinavia in the avi/mp4/dvd player.

No that's not accurate at all. The PS3 is a licensed AACS player. They HAVE to add it. James is saying that if the player isn't licensed by the AACS LA, then there's no reason to add the protection as doing so would cost them money. Unless they're so desperate to get it in the streamers that they're willing to help them implement and test it...

I know what you're saying, but PS3 has several players in it, and because the AACS license, they were bound to add it to the bd player, not to allow copies. But they added it to dvd player, to avi/mp4 player and... they didn't add it to audio player.
I've extracted the audio from a cam that had cinavia and played fine as audio file.

Speaking of players, it would be nice to check if the flash player in the browser detects cinavia

For the beginning, checking the core only should suffice.

As for the underlined part; it doesn't seem to be such large amounts of data, as CAM releases are reported to be detected within a minute or so, assuming the PS3 is decoding and detecting watermark in real time. That doesn't stress the PS3 to the maximum processing load. Meaning, 60 seconds of the audio could be decoded and checked for Cinavia in few seconds - depending on the processor power... just a thought.

Can you play with the audio by degrading its quality e.g. by compressing an decompressing it with the mp3 codec, to find the bps threshold at which Cinavia can't be detected any more?

I would do that, but don't have PS3. I had Xbox, but got sick of it and gave it to my cousin (yup, morally questionable, but he was happy ).

from what i've been reading about the wdtv is that the wdtv live can enable watermarking it was put in because the new wdtv live can stream netflix that's why it was added to the new firmware on the wdtv live. I think this is the version of wdtv that I have. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=734

Oh joy It doesn't look like it supports PGS subs or bitstreaming HD audio, so, I'll pass anyway.

If you are looking for a non Cinavia hardware Blu-ray disk player. (to the best of my knowledge)

I just purchased a Sony BDP-S560 from www.newegg.com out of California by E-mail. Manufacturing date 7/15/09 and according to the telephone call to them their computer said they have 39 in stock. $175. and that includes shipping. A so called upgrade from the S360 but still Cinavia free.

I wanted to get the Sony BDP-S360 from Best Buy but they are completely sold out and cannot get anymore. Could not find one within 400 miles from my location.

This is going to be my back-up Blu-ray disk player. I believe it will pay for itself in less headache's down the road if Cinavia does not get broken.

Don't get any model that ends in 70 their manufacturing date is in 2010, and probably have the cancer Cinavia. Non Cinavia players are getting very scarce.
