I am searching for a video conversion program that can convert a Blu-ray m2ts file to a mkv file in 8 hours or less. Is there such a beast? I have tried Ripbot264 and various other conversion programs. All that I've tried take 18 to 24 hours, which is a long time to tie up a computer. The only program I've found is that can do it in less than 8 hours is MakeMKV. It works but is quite pricy for what it is. Are you folks aware of any other programs with that capability? Thanks for your help.

Firstly you're in the wrong section. This belongs in Third party tools as hit has nothing to do with AnyDVD HD. Secondly take a look at BD-Rebuilder here. Has everything you need it to do. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=143716

If all you want is to take the original video (without re-encoding) and put it in an mkv container, then I would recommend HDDVD/Bluray Stream Extractor. This will strip out the main video, audio, subtitles, and chapters that you want for you movie only copy. Then MKVMerge will accept all of that input and put it in an MKV container. All of this takes about 30 to 45 minutes. You can shave off some minutes if you rip the bluray to an ISO first and work with that as opposed to feeding HD Stream Extractor directly from the disk. Both tools are free, will get you what you want (movie only MKV) and don't take very long. |

eac3to will convert the video (only) to an MKV container. You have to store the audio tracks separately. example:
Code:
eac3to.exe d:\ 1) 2: video.mkv 3: audio.ac3

Ch3vr0n: Sorry for popsting in the wrong forum. I appreciate your tip regarding BD-ReBuilder. I'll read through the thread tonight that you pointed me to.
PrinipalityFusion: No, I did not realized that re-encoding and converting were two different things. Thank you for setting me straight. I'll check out the two programs you recommended: HDDVD Stream Extractor and MKVMerge. Mike r: Can you give me some explanation as to how to use the code you suggested and what it means (eac3to.exe d:\ 1) 2: video.mkv 3: audio.ac3)? You kind of lost me on what I am to do with it. The objective of all this is that I have an LG Blu-ray player that can play movies stored on my computer hard drive via an ether net link. The player cannot play m2ts files but can play mkv files. I use AnyDVD to rip the Blu-ray disc to my hard drive, which comes out as m2ts files. From there, I need to select the largest m2ts file, which is the main movie, and then convert it to an mkv file that my LG Blu-ray player can read. |

get a faster CPU. I can convert a Blu M2TS file to MKV in 6 - 7 depending on the quality setting. In either Ripbot or MeGUI.
I have a Core i5, which made a HUGE difference in encoding time compared to my old Core2 chip. |

@tedd
see here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=125966 @Ahlitah you are wrong, MKV is a container and you don't need a fast CPU to convert it. you are confusing this with reencoding the video using x264.

Using Clown and MKV Merge I can do a straight container conversion in about 55-65 minutes. Sometimes less depending on file size.
The bigest bottleneck in this case is harddrive speed. |

PrincipalityFusion: I need some terminology help. How does "re-encoding" differ from "conversion"? Which is appropriate for "changing" a m2ts file, which my blu-ray player can't read, to a mkv file that my blu-ray player can read? What is meant by "container". Is an mkv "container" the same thing as an mkv "file"?
Mike r: Sorry, I know it's obvious to you but you lost me again on that link. Had no idea what it said. I'm guessing I'll have to really research eac3to.exe to understand what it is you're trying to tell me. Which is more straight forwarded to accomplish my objective as described above, eac3to.exe or the 2 software programs PrincipalityFusion suggested? Thanks for your patience and all your help.
