Unhappy Christmas Carol 2010, fa-la-la-la-la and crash

Sigh.

Another Disney "playing it is everything" release.

This DVD is appearing more and more as not readable for a copy.

Since we all know by now that a disc that plays may not necessarily be readable (all right?) then this one MAY fit that bill.

Not knowing what other programs will show you, CloneDVD2 will likely show you this:

Error <drive>:/VIDEO_TS_09_1.VOB Read Error (Note: "READ" error )

And using the "rip video..." option in AnyDVD will likely show this:

FileIO 3 VTS ......

Feedback now shows us this is NOT a protection issue. It appears the pre-release production is faulty. Some will process, most will not. This is NOT an AnyDVD problem.
We are also getting feedback that customers with two drives get this copied using the other drive.

To add some further clarification to this specific error that Frank noted, it is found on the Region 1 DVD that is sold as the standard DVD release, the 2 disc Blu-Ray + DVD combo, the 4 disc Blu-Ray 2D + Blu-Ray 3D + DVD + Digital Copy release, and the rental DVDs from places like Blockbuster. The same exact disc is used for all of these in Region 1.

I personally had this problem with the 4 disc set that I purchased from a major retailer on the day of release so this wasn't a pre-release acquisition by the retailer or myself. I returned my set of discs for a refund and bought the exact same set in another store and had no issues with the new DVD.

If you run into this issue then the problem is a bad pressing and not a protection issue! Try using another DVD drive to see if it is more tolerant to bad or borderline bad DVDs but even if it does work the problem is still a badly pressed DVD. If using another DVD drive still fails then return the DVD to the point of purchase and ask for an exchange. If they argue with you then tell them to take it up with Disney because a lot of bad discs were pressed and sold. This situation is widespread.

Thanks for adding to this. I stuck my neck out on this from the first and went through some "shoot the messenger" experiences. "tip of the hat" to you, man.
