How can I copy the ripped DVD straight to a digital hard drive and watch it from there using my PS3 instead of burning it to a blank DVD. I've transfered all my old dvd's to a digital format and saved them on an external hard drive. I would like to be able to elliminate the process of actually burning the dvd and just go straight to digital copy. Please advise.

I would appreciate an answer to this question as well. i am doing this same process. I am putting my DVDs to a hard drive using the write to DVD file option on CloneDVD and i can watch the file using VLC viewer, but it is not in a format the a PS3 can read. What can I do to make this happen???

I don't have a PS3, but from what I read.. you guys need to set up a media server on your PC first.
Here's a link you can follow that should show you how to get all that going so the PS3 will see the files over the network, from your PC. This is for Windows 7, but if you want it for XP.. I searched Google using: create a media server on windows X - swap the X with either XP, Vista or 7 http://www.ehow.com/how_5660094_set-...windows-7.html |

On my PS3 I can see the PC as a media server and I can see the file that I am trying to play, which I just ripped, but it says it is in an unrecognized format. And yes I am running Windows 7.

Ok, second on the list..
Make sure you have the latest updates for Windows 7. Next... update to the latest software and firmware version for the PS3. Last... seems that the PS3 only supports video in the MP4 format. Not VOB. So you'll have to convert your movies first before the console will pick them up to watch. Seems that this software here, can convert the files "on the fly" before sending the media to the PS3. Meaning, you shouldn't have to fully convert movies just to watch them. TV Versity Last edited by xCharvelx416; 5th December 2010 at 17:40. |
