Default AnyDVD + Videoredo produce DVD I can't play on a PC

Hi

I've used AnyDVD HD 6.7.6.0 to "copy DVD" to my hard disk, and then used the DVD burner in Videoredo TVSuite V4 to produce a (duplicate) DVD (DVD+R Dual Layer).

The problem is that the resultant DVD cannot be played successfully on my PC, but can be played on my PS3.

On the PC, an opening title (an MGM 'splash screen', several seconds long) is played - then nothing. I tried WMP, WMC, VLC and HP Quickplay, all with same/similar result.

I also tried playing the DVD from the copy on the harddisk (produced by AnyDVD). That seems to work OK (eg. using VLC), but not sure if that is definitive proof that AnyDVD is not the problem.

I compared the files/sizes on the original disk with the AnyDVD copies and with the those on the duplicate disk and noted:

1) that a number of the larger .vob files were very slightly different size in the harddisk copy than the original DVD (otherwise, files matched);
2) The duplicate DVD matches the AnyDVD hard disk copy, except for two files - one is VTS_01_0.BUP and the other VTS_01_0.IFO. The AnyDVD made files are 84KB (same as orig DVD) whereas those on the duplicate disk are 24KB.

I've attached 2 files - first is the AnyDVD log of the original DVD, the 2nd is an AnyDVD log of the 'duplicate' DVD. [The file ending "_EN" is the original.]

Thanks
PS: I've been using AnyDVD for quite a while without a hitch and am really happy with it.

OK, a bit more info that sounds pretty relevant.....

If I disable AnyDVD, then the PC can play the duplicated DVD.

So presumably this is an AnyDVD problem? Is there any further info I can provide?

Ok try this under anydvd setting set AI scanner state to be disabled and then try to play disc.

If works create log file and post it here. Once done put anydvd to default state.

AnyDVD's job is to remove the protection. If you are putting in a back-up there should be no protection so it has nothing to do. It also prevents auto-run to keep nasty root kits and things from being installed. If you point your player to the VIDEO_TS.ifo file it should play even with AnyDVD running.

looks like you have errors on the copy.
Quote:
Found & removed structural copy protection!
Found & removed bogus title set(s)!
RCE protection not found.
UDF filesystem patched!
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Found & removed 5 potential bad sector protections!
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 4!
As far as I'm aware if the copy was clean it wouldn't find these as there wouldn't be anything to find

BTW these weren't on the original disc so they must be either burn errors or introduced by videoredo

The following - from the AnyDVD_Status.txt file - is from the Original Disk (in part contracdicts your statement):
AI scan forced, heuristic scan detected no protection!
Found & removed structural copy protection!
RCE protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Removed CSS copy protection!
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 4!

The same info from the similar file for the duplicate - after making the Settings adjustment suggested by Hawk - is identical to that immediatly above.

That was for troubleshooting ideally that shouldn't be necessary with well designed software.

No it doesn't contradict what I'm saying. On the original log it only found CSS protection and removed it. On your bad copy it's finding sector protection errors that weren't on the original and trying to remove those.
