Forced subtitles

I am trying out the trial version of CloneDVD mobile and I am experimenting with converting an episode of The Wire to avi. I notice in the subtitles settings there doesn't seem to be an option to select "forced subtitles". It offers a variety of languages, but no mention of forced subtitles. Is it that CloneDVD mobile is sophisticated enough to see that there are no forced subtitles on this DVD and so doesn't offer me the option? Or is this simply not an option in this software?

If I'm going to buy the software I need to know that it can detect and process forced subtitles correctly.

Is this really such a difficult question? I never buy a piece of software without checking out what kind of support there is for it. The lack of response here has answered my question. I've purchased DVDFab8. Goodbye CloneDVD Mobile!

I've actually gotten really good support by using their online contact form at http://www.slysoft.com/en/contact.html ... maybe the forum isn't the best place to get a prompt answer... but even at that, these people aren't in American time-zones and ask for at least a 48 hour window to give a response.

I can't tell you how many times I converted a DVD, a month later sat down to watch it and found that most of the movie was in English but some was not. Arggggh.

Which is why I always do a quick skip play preview of the output to see if it is what I want regarding audio/subtitle issues. More than once I've caught wrongly selected options so I can redo the backup with a minimum of fuss.

This is a pretty unsatisfactory solution, since doing this often involves spoilers.

You watch a minute or so of the movie, just enough see if the video/audio/subtitles are what you expect. If not, redo the backup. No spoilers involved. The amount you need to watch to confirm a good backup is (arguably) less "spoilage" than watching the trailer for the movie.

The only other "solution" would be to immediately watch the entire movie, something you would probably consider even less satisfactory.

You must not have understood the original issue. It's not foreign movies that I forget to include subtitles for, it's movies that have foreign dialog in the middle of them that are the problem. How could you determine the need for foreign subtitles without watching the entire movie??

And, for the type of movies are are talking about, the Clone Mobile solution is horrible: look at subtitles for the entire movie, even though you only need it for a fraction of the time.

We're asking that forced subtitles be handled in a good way, allowing us to not worry about this issue or have to look at way more subtitles that we want. I personally find subtitles for english dialog very distracting.

I understood the problem very well, forced subtitles. The solution I offered works for forced subtitles as well as the alternate language subs.

Yes, the program listings for forced vs. regular subtitles could be better, but the forced subs are listed. It just requires a bit of work to get what you want for a backup.

If the forced subs start 1h in, how is previewing going to help??

Also, if the forced subs aren't listed any different from regular subs, how will I know??

I wonder why you are being such an apologist for the current method.
