Default Six Feet Under Season 1 (HBO Series)

I obtained the DVDs fron Netflix. I used DVDShrink with AnyDvd running. Errors are from DVDSHRINK. Season 1 Disc 1 and 2 processed OK. Disk 3 and 4 failed. Disc 3 failed with unknown error. Disc 4 failed with a protection error. These discs contain other software which user can install but they play fine without this sofware. I don't know if this software is on Discs 1 & 2 since there was no problem with them so I didn't look.

If I were you, I would rip EACH entire disk to the hard drive with AnyDVD HD, load the ripped files into DVD Shrink and pick out the the parts or selections you want to back-up or keep and put it on a DVD-9 uncompressed with Imgburn.

If the source disks are from Netflix clean the disks very well before ripping to the hard drive.

Default Six Feet Under

DVD Shrink fails when processing the individual movies (there are several episodes on each disc). I suspect that there may be code in the movies that the special software uses and that this inbedded code is the problem. But I'm far from being an expert on this. If there is inbedded code it doesn't affect normal playing of the disc.

The software would be in a ROM folder and would have nothing to do with the main episode files, I'd recommend following fast eddies advice and ripping them to the harddrive first then trying to access each episode from the rip

The software is in the top level along with the movie files. I will return disc 4 and forget about this series - it's not so good anyway.

Trying to rip directly from a DVD using AnyDVD and DVDShrink is increasingly going to fail because of the new features of AnyDVD and the new protections studios are putting on their DVDs. If you want to use DVDShrink to shrink the resulting output you will have to use AnyDVD's built-in Rip to HD feature before shrinking the files. No way around it because DVDShrink is old, unsupported software.

@cfreint
Have you not considered trialing CloneDVD2?

Rip each disk to folder with AnyDVD then import that folder into Shrink. That simple.
The AnyDVD rip will leave the ROM software behind - you don't need it.
