Hey guys,
I am having a problem with some bluray disks of mine that I am trying to play on my laptop. In particular: Band Of Brothers (Problem Intermittent) Carlos The Jackal (Problem Constant) The issue arises when I insert the bluray DVD into the drive. AnyDVD tells me it is scanning the disc and simply stays there for up to half an hour. Trying to end the process via taskmanager does not work as it always results in freezing up task manager levaing me with no option but a reboot. Once rebooted if I try again I have the same issue. The scanning bubble notification pops up and the software hangs there with the progress bar looping constantly. The software version I am using is: AnyDVD HD v6.8.5.0 and my laptop specs are as follow: Bluray Drive: TSST Corp DVDBD LB-23A Bluray Firmware: SC00 1022 (I also upgraded the drive to SC01 and tried it but got same problem so downgraded again) Computer Processor: Pentium R Dual Core T4400 @ 2.20GHz RAM: 4GB OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (Service Pack 1) I am unable to capture a log file because once the popup notifier of scanning comes the AnyDVD HD tray icon does not respond to a right click to launch the log file capture! I would appreicate your help. Many thanks, Monx |

What happens if you disable AnyDVD HD? Does windows then see the disc, and can you rip it using Imgburn?

I have similar problem with R2/UK Rescue me Season 2 DVD. In my case AnyDVD MAY be able to finish the scanning eventually but it takes 2-3 rounds to do so ie really slow.
Yes, disabling AnyDVD lets me watch the movie no problem except with annoying forced logos etc. Laptop is Acer Aspire 7535G with optiarc 5100 BD (R2) drive and W7 x64. Anydvd ersion is 6.8.5.0 Last edited by Barleyman; 31st July 2011 at 19:29. |

If you read through the stickies there's one called 'Getting read errors...' try following that and post your results.
As has been said many times before playing a disc is not the same as copying. You can make a blank logfile using AnyDVD HD, just remove the disc Last edited by Adbear; 1st August 2011 at 01:36. |

According to your logfile your drive is not a 5100, it's a BC-5500S and there have been 2 firmware updates since the one on your drive http://www.firmwarehq.com/Optiarc/BC-5500S/files.html try updating and see if that works, although the Optiarc laptop drives are not exactly the best of drives. (I frequently have discs that work perfectly on everything else but not the laptop drives) Last edited by Adbear; 1st August 2011 at 01:28. |

@Adbear:
Thanks for your reply. Here is the blank log file from AnyDVD HD. Also, I burnt the Carlos The Jackal bluray to .iso using Imgburn as instructed and got no errors. The log is also attached. Thanks again for the help. Also, because I burnt the bluray with AnyDVD HD disabled the .iso still has write-protection and region lock. Is it possible to play this .ISO file? If so, what software do you use? Sorry for newb question but I am very new to this. Thanks! Monx Last edited by monxster; 1st August 2011 at 09:58. |

But what happens, if you mount the ISO with Virtual Clone Drive and THEN let AnyDVD process it? (If that worked, you could actually play the ISO). So... if you remove the original disc and let AnyDVD handle the ISO instead, does that cause the same hanging?

Hi Peer,
Thanks for your response. I downloaded Virtual Clone Drive and as soon as I mount the .iso AnyDVD HD process it instantly and with no problem and I am able to play and watch the movie using PowerDVD8. So my status is as follows: Bluray disc burns with no erros using Imgburn. Log file provided. If I try to play the bluray disc directly from the drive with AnyDVD HD enabled, the program pops up the scanning notification bubble and loops continuously. I can hear the drive being spun up and spun down a few times before all drive activity finishes and the popup notification just continues looping. If I try to play the movie without AnyDVD HD enbabled then Windows 7 recognises the disc and PowerDVD8 attempts to play and gives me a region code warning. Your help is greatly appreciated. Monx |

Actually, only one of those firmware files are valid, 1.E1. That changed nothing WRT anydvd scanning and why should it, since the DVD already worked perfectly fine with AnyDVD disabled? I just timed the scanning process and it takes about 1min 20 sec, give or take a bit. But yes, maybe my issue belongs to the AnyDVD forum.. What app should I use to check if the disk is OK? DVDDecrypt? Last edited by Barleyman; 1st August 2011 at 11:58. |
