Hardware Specs:
Win7 x64 SP1 (Fresh Install) GIGABYTE GA-880GMA-UD2H AMD Athlon X2 260 3.2 ghz Onboard Radeon HD 4250 Video (Catalyst drivers 11.10) 4GB RAM MS Essentials ImgBurn 2.5.6.0 Total Media Theater ver. 5.0.1.114 Realtek 8111D 10/100/1000 Integrated NIC (Manually set at Full Duplex 1.0 GB) Gigabit Network (Cisco switches, CAT6 cabling) Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.5.0 Like numerous other posts, I too have been experiencing freezes, lock-ups using VirtualCloneDrive 5.4.5.0 when streaming Blu-Ray ISO's from a network location. Here is a sample of the steps I can do to re-create the issue:
It appears that there is definitely something wrong with 5.4.5.0 and network ISO's. Can Slysoft confirm/re-create the same errors that I can above? Also, how do you turn on debugging (logging) for Virtual Clonedrive (Is this possible)? Pancho Last edited by pancho16; 15th November 2011 at 13:54. |

There is no debug mode. And there is no need for one. VCD doesn't care if it is a network path or a local file. It handles it exactly the same, except that AFAIK network files will always use buffered I/O in later versions.

I can confirm these errors.
I downgraded to VCD 5.4.4.0 and there are no more udfs event 141 and delayed write errors in my event log. And what's more important: now my bluray experience is perfect. Playback is smooth as silk at 23.976 fps. There used be very disturbing occasional stuttering, obviously caused by those udfs/delayed write errors. Furthermore, VCD 5.4.5.0 used to crash totally when set to buffered I/O mode. I have Qnap NAS SMB, cat 5e, D-link DIR-655, core i3, W7-64, HD5450, CCC 11.11 and TMT5 .114. Thanks @pancho16! This was great finding. |

This is not helping.
I am still waiting for a reply to my question: With 5.4.4.0, is buffered I/O on or off?

I'll answer, buffering was on for me. 5.4.5.0 I hate to say it, but there is a minor flutter every few seconds mounting the ISO over the network. I did not believe it at first, but I had several people point it out to me as we watched a movie. Since I am a network designer, I plan to sniff the traffic to see what I can see. Any little bit helps in this case. |

Hi,
I am new to the forum, but I thought I will share my solution to the network ISO problems that many of us are experiencing with VCD 5.4.5.0 and Windows 7. Background: I installed 5.4.5.0 today and almost immediately ran into problems with iso files accessed over SMB. VCD appeared to be the ideal solution for what I was looking, but only local iso mounts were working fine. Mounting iso files shared over the network worked well too, and I could access individual files, but playing DVDs were not possible. The media players (and I tried several) all went black and stopped responding. Playback was not possible. Configuration: WIndows 7E with latest patches and updates, VCD 5.4.5.0, MS Security Essentials, Lacie NAS with SMB shared folders. Test: After reading through many posts in different threads apparently complaining of similar problems, I was triggered by a post in which it was observed that the network iso problems disappeared after removing MS Security Essentials. Indeed, this seemed to the problem. - Unmount the dvd iso file, turn off real-time protection of MS SE, mount the file back and the dvd would play without problems. - Unmount the dvd iso file, turn on real-time protection of MS SE, mount it back again, and the dvd would stop playing. Solution: obviously, MS SE is interfering with 5.4.5.0. The solution is to add the VCD virtual drive to the excluded locations in MS SE. Open MS SE console by double-clicking on the SE icon in the tray; click on Settings tab; select Excluded files and Locations; and add your virtual bd-rom to the exclusions; save settings and you are done. I hope at least some of us will benefit from this knowledge. Enjoy! |

Well after testing, I found it is NOT a network issue. I looked further and found that TMT 3 and 5 both have issues rendering video. It is a known issue out on TMT's forums. I played video from my network server and had stutter, I changed many version of VCD same answer, "stutter." I then removed and tried Daemon tools lite. I had the same result, and I saw no network issues from the server or any responses back and forth. I used my normal sniffing tools ethereal. After investigative research, I found may people complaining in the TMT forums. I tried to play a plain disk on my HTPC, and found I still had stutter. I put TMT 3 on my HTPC and tried version .185 Stutter again. I finally grabbed Power DVD 11 trial and played over Network mounted ISO. I have NO issues with play back.
I have VCD 5.4.5.0 w/ buffering on. mounted network ISO using PowerDVD 11 trial NO issues with play back. Unless someone has other data to share, my conclusion is what many other TMT users are seeing. That version 5 and 3 with their latest updates have issues with playback. No I did not test which versions work. I did not have time to do that kind of testing. I just wanted to prove it was not a network issue. |
