Default Breaks the Win 7 DVD driver?

I do not see any recent posts on this issue, and I am trying to figure out what happened.

I had a several day old installation of windows 7 Professional 32bit on a brand new computer, and I installed Virtual Clone Drive 5.4.5.0. I set it as the .iso mounter in mediabrowser. I seemed to work swimmingly as a browsed through several local and networked .iso files, in order to play them through mediacenter.

But when I placed a dvd in my physical drive to play it, I noticed that the physical drive was not present in My Computer. I opened device manger and was greeted with about 7 exclamation points, for both the physical drive, and each of the virtual drives. And none of them showed up in My Computer.

If I removed the physical drive in device manager, and asked device manger to scan for hardware changes, I always got the avisory that the driver was damaged or corrupted. If I tried to let the OS search for a driver, I was always told proper driver was installed, i.e., the windows generic driver. The physical drive could boot the os off the installation disk , so I wound up having to reinstall windows. Not a fun day, but I want to insure this does not happen again.

Of course I uninstalled virtual clonedrive and rebooted and tried to update the driver again to no avail before reinstalling the os.

I am going from recollection, but I think I had set perhaps a maximium of 6 drives allowed.

Any ideas as to what could have gone wrong? I certainly don't want it to happen again. For future reference, where could I obtain a copy of the dvd driver, so that I could re-install it without having to reinstall the os? I assume I would have to boot into the command prompt and use copy and del commands to fix the problem. Is that even possible?

a) Download imgburn. It's a free program: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(it's also an excellent program imo)

b) Go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order. Click "Clipboard". Then paste the information you pasted into your clipboard into your next post (ctrl-v).

OR

visit http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.ph...7&postcount=11 (thanks to Zebadee)
Use one of the programs mentioned, and list your Lowerfilters and Upperfilters in your next post.

Or for XP users only,
Click Start, Run
type regedit
Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control Set\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

We want what's listed in "LowerFilters" and "UpperFilters". List your Lowerfilters and Upperfilters in your next post.

Before you do this visit http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/about4719.html, and read the first post please, so you can get a better understanding of what is going on.

Do not start randomly deleting filters, please.
