I seem to have the same problem as the OP in here: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=51913. I also have Win7, latest version of Virtual CloneDrive and my DVD drive has gone missing. I have tried all the same steps as the OP, for no avail. The device manager lists my DVD drive now as an unknown device.
A bit older windows install here, so I really don't want to fix this with a reinstall as the OP in the linked thread. Anyway, here is the ImgBurn file: =============================================== Filter Driver Load Order - ImgBurn v2.5.6.0 =============================================== Upper Device Filter: [None Found] Upper Class Filter: [None Found] Device: CD/DVD-ROM Device Lower Class Filter: [None Found] Lower Device Filter: [None Found] Also the program gives following error messages: I 08:06:55 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... W 08:06:55 No devices detected! Edit: I also tried removing the upper and lower filters as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116, but there were neither listed so I couldn't do anything. Well it could be that the drive has developed a fault, ot that you need to update the drivers for the boards drive interface. Check on the board manufacturers site to see if they have a newer driver.

Seems strange that a fault would appear simultaneously when I install VCD.
Anyway, Windows doesn't let me update the drivers - I just get an error message stating that the update process failed (just like the OP in the linked thread above). EDIT: To elaborate: I've uninstalled VCD. Under Device management I have removed one "unknown device" two "basic system devices" and one "additional processor" (no idea what their exact English names are, my OS is in Finnish and I'm translating on the fly). I've also tried to "find the changes made to the system", but Device management does still not recognize the drive, just adds the above mentioned devices back on the list and gives the error message. My comp is an Acer Aspire 5520G laptop and I have no idea how to find a DVD driver for it on my own. A quick google search doesn't seem to yield anything helpful. EDIT2: It seems that the fault might actually be with the drive itself. Looks like that BIOS only recognizes the drive intermittently (once every 10 startups or so) - but of course when I first looked at BIOS the device was listed! I probably need to find an another drive for testing... Last edited by albval; 4th February 2012 at 05:42. Reason: added even more info |

It wasn't a driver for the optical drive itself, but a driver for the main disc controller I was referring to e.g on intel systems it tends to be the Intel rapid storage driver that you install.
Does look like either a flaky drive or a failing motherboard if the drive drops out in the BIOS |

Yes, you were right and I was barking the wrong tree - thank you for your help anyway! The motherboard is indeed dying. Time to go shopping for a new laptop, then...

I too have just installed AnyDVD7030. After reboot I have lost access to LG HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH08LS20 Blu-Ray Drives (2). Operating system Windows 7 64bit.
