The rip appears to only have 1 audio track so I'm assuming this is not a full disc rip using AnyDVD but a rip you've done using something else. what I need you to do is exit out of AnyDVD then run the ifo file from the original disc through Mediainfo Pro and save that logfile, then run AnyDVD and click on 'Default', then with AnyDVD running run the same file through Mediainfo pro from the original disc, because AnyDVD is now running it should apply any fixes to the files so it's the same as ripping it to the hard drive using AnyDVD's ripper

The ripped file is from a disc made with AnyDVD active when I ripped it with DVDDecrypter in demuxing settings. Here's the two of the original disc, made with the IFO from the feature. Hope it will help us out...

It's as I thought, they're both the same which means AnyDVD is doing it's job by making an exact copy minus the encryption, that would imply there's a defect in the original video file which was there when the disc was authored and therefore is not an AnyDVD issue.
You could try taking the full disc rip made using AnyDVD's ripper and run it through DVDpatcher, just make sure that all settings match the original file like setting the bitrate to match, frame size to 16:9, etc, then when it's finished try running the patched rip through your 3rd party programs |

I'm working with Patcher but so far it's failed. There's more to the program than is perfectly clear, though, so I'll stay at it!
In the meantime, here's a screen shot from DVDDecrypter --- check out the warning notes about protection...AnyDVD was active. |

No luck at all with patcher --- the reworked file is not compatible with DVDauthorGUI...it causes major problems and no usable results. Trying to process the newly patched file with DVDflick produces a disc with the same problem that we started with --- no letterbox presentation.
That program does look interesting, though --- it might be useful for converting PAL to NTSC...we'll see. --- ADDED LATER --- NO, IT DOESN'T CONVERT TO NTSC. Last edited by jpmccusa; 21st May 2012 at 00:20. |

Stop trying to use DVDdecrypter on the original disc, the software hasn't been updated in years and can't handle newer disc structures even with AnyDVD running, you should always use DVDDecrypter on a full disc rip not on the original.
From what I can see the problem is on the original disc and there's nothing AnyDVD can do to fix issues with the original video stream being faulty. This could be caused by having a slightly faulty pressing or be in the original files as I stated earlier. You can test out the first by getting a replacement disc, if a replacement doesn't fix it then it's most likely in the original video stream and you'd need to fix the video file to get round that. If DVDpatcher won't work then you're going to have to try and load it into an editing package like Premiere pro and change the aspect in that then re-save it at the right aspect |

I'll look into this but am beginning to lose heart. Note that I use DVDDecrypter to demux, not as a straight rip. The same problem occurs with the inferior demuxing programs PGCdemux and Rejig.
I rather suspect this problem is more widespread than we know...it's just that I haven't demuxed many with this difficulty to add subtitles to. Thanks very much for all the help...sorry about all the hassle! |

But the fact is you're demuxing from the original disc so you'll still run into the same issues as you would if you were shrinking etc using DVDdecrypter. When using any of those old programs you should always use AnyDVD's rip to harddisk then process from there not direct from the original disc.
If it were a widespread issue then I'd expect a lot more complaints as the issue should show up if you run it through CloneDVD and CloneDVD Mobile as both those programs need to process the files in the same way. |

Sorry, no, I wasn't demuxing from the original disc, I was doing it from a disc generated after ripping with AnyDVD ripper, running it through VOBBLANKER to get rid of non-feature items, then using DVDshrink to eliminate the French subtitles and spare audio tracks. I tried it from the original disc, too, and got identical results.

I tried making a forced letter-box DVD with PGCEdit. The disc was indeed letterboxed. However, when I demuxed and made a subtitled DVD, it went back to the wrong aspect ratio! How can this possibly be?
