Default CloneDVD copies, but won't burn to disc

I have had very few problems with Clone DVD, but recently upgraded the mobo and processor, so had to reload Windows7 and all software. Now sometimes it works, and sometimes it stops during the copying, but usually it stops during the burning. Sometimes I get a message to use better media, but I am using Verbatim -R. Oddly, it knocks out my pioneer BR DVD drive from the device list of removable storage under "My Computer". Wierd huh?

I am attaching the AnyDVD and logfiles.

The following is just my opinion, so take it or leave it as you see fit.

-R. Not the best. Only one brand excels at making -R a quality product and that is Taiyo Yuden. Single layer TY -R Singapore made blanks can't be beat IMO.

If you are not using Verbatim DatalifePlus blanks then you get hit and miss quality.

Country of manufacture can be a critical factor in whether you get consistent quality burns. Any place other than Singapore right now seems to be having QA problems.

Burning the blanks too fast also can cause problems.

Intermittent connections with your drive is also a possibility, loose cable connections, along with your drive has seen better days and is dying.

Try making a backup as you do normally but use the free Imgburn program to burn your blank, not CloneDVD. This way you can eliminate CloneDVD from the list of possible problems.

Good luck, troubleshooting intermittent burn problems can be a major pain. Lots of wasted time and blanks.

Thanks for the advice, but I have used A LOT of Verbatim discs, and had NO problems with them. I have been using Clone DVD a lot and everything was just fine until I got a new MOBO & Processor. Now I have had only 50% success since re-installing the software on the same hard drive. Do you think it could be some left over software on the hard drive that is interfering with the reinstallation of Clone DVD? I tried a typical uninstall and reinstall, but that didn't help. Would editing the registry help before reinstalling?

When you replaced your motherboard was it for the same type or a different model of board and processor? If it was a different one then ideally you should wipe the drive and re-install windows from scratch so you don't have any left over drivers from your old board which may cause a conflict. Also did you remember to install all the drivers for the motherboard and make sure the optical drive is connected to the right socket (if it's an Intel CPU the you want to put it on the Intel controller in a SATA II socket)

I did replace the intel MOBO and processor with similar but upgraded parts. I went from an i5 to i7 quad core on a newer intel mobo. I don't know if the drive was wiped for sure, but they did have to reinstall windows from scratch, and they told me that I have to reinstall all of the software that was on the computer. The rest of the components remained, and the optical drive appears to be working, except I noticed that after the CloneDVD stops working, if I look at the devices listed under "my computer", the optical drive is not seen. I'm not sure what that means. Any ideas?

Do you know which physical controller they plugged the optical drive in to? If it's a new Win 7 system then I'd expect you to have the 'Intel rapid storage' icon down by the clock, if you open that, it should tell you if and where the optical drive is attached

Adbear:
No I don't know what physical controller it was plugged into, however, upon restarting, the DVD drive reappears. It functions quite well for all other applications. Also there is no "intel rapid storage" icon on the task bar. Maybe because this is windows 7 Professional version?

Anyone:
I have been successful burning DVDs intermittantly, but now Clone DVD seems to hang before finishing. I have attached logfiles. I have also tried ripping to a hard drive with AnyDVD, then tried burning to disc using the ClloneDVD and that didn't work. I also have tried using DVD Shrink on large file movies, but that didn't work either. After I installed the DVD shrink, my computer wouldn't boot to windows for 5 minutes on restarting. Once I uninstalled the DVD shrink, the computer then worked OK. Does anyone know if that software is limited to WindowsXP and not 7? I could try installing it under XP mode.

Thanks for all the help.
Still looking to resolve the issues!

DVD Shrink works perfectly on my x32 and x64 Home Premium Win 7 machines. Is your Win 7 fully up to date?

I'm not saying for definite that it's a controller issue just trying to rule it out. If your optical drive is not plugged in to the main controller on the board then it can give weird issues where the drive disappears after use and doesn't come back until reboot. Could you find out what motherboard you are using? And then follow the cable back and say which socket the DVD drive is plugged in to?
If it is a controller issue then I would fully expect it to re-appear when you restart the computer, and if your system is using a motherboard that needs the Intel rapid storage software then it would show up on all versions of Win 7
