Sims 2: Apartment Life
I'm having a problem with Apartment Life as well. I get the following message: Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000).
Some answers and the log file:

Vista 64 bit w/ with windows auto update on (latest update and the service pack)

Don't have any running. Star Burn is installed, but off.

None that was on the list or I know about.

According to posts here and Gamejackal it is using securROM.

The original DVD from launch day w/ no updates...

# What region or country is the original disc from?
# What cpu are you running?
Intel core DUO... 3GHz
# What optical drives (dvd-rom,cd-rom, burners) are you using to create profiles with? What firmware version is installed on your reader?
LG supper multi. Version 1.06
# What security software (firewall, antivirus) are you using? Please provide version numbers.
AVG free version - 8.0.175 with the latest anti-virus files as of yesterday

Program ran fine when creating the profile, but gives the following error message when launched: "Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000)."

I ran the game a bunch of times with the DVD in the drive and pushed all the buttons in the performance wizard a few times... and it appears to be launching. No idea what did it or why but it's up for now. I guess this is closed unless I post again. I just wish I knew which form of user error this was (or how to avoid it again - frustrating ).
Is that kind of thing common with most games or should I be expecting it to be smoother in general?

My responses 1) presume you own the original retail disc you are attempting to backup, 2) tend to represent myself only, and 3) do not necessarily represent the views of SlySoft nor its developers. I do not work for SlySoft.

The error message you described indicates that the timing data within the profile is not good enough. Try recapturing with a minimum number of processes running.
