An ISO is an image or duplicate of sorts of an entire disk contained inside one file. Virtual clone drive inserts the virtual disk (ISO file) into a virtual disk drive and the operating system and therefore programs such as PowerDVD, Media Center etc think it is a real physical drive and use it as such. Virtual clone drive simply mounts ISO files it does not create them.
