I don't think *tech* support can argue product pricing.

Why not? We provide support for our customers.
We sell the product at the price we see fit.

Eby dont sells lifetime license. The 39€ license is for 1 year of updates and support

    Where is that?

Where do you see CloneDVD for 1 year on the ELBY site?

Nope, Elby *only* sells lifetime licenses.

Maybe calcu007 is referring to this?
    http://www.elby.ch/en/products/clone_dvd/download.html
    However, Elby also says
    http://www.elby.ch/en/products/clone_dvd/license.html

    Not the same thing

Elby licenses will be taken over on an update as stated in your information if the existing license is less than 1 year old. Nothing to do with the overall lifetime license.
Elby does not and never did sell timed licenses like SlySoft.
If you want to know why that is please contact Elby.

The 2050 date is the intended end-of-life for all the licenses/certificates, but I'm sure when that date arrives something will be done to extend it.

Isn't updating a licence within 1 year the exact same thing that SlySoft does with its 1-year-licences?

Of course you're free to charge whatever you see fitting,
but before i jump to conclusions again: doesn't elby provide support as well ?
    Let alone software development costs.

I suppose this could be confusing...

NO! It is NOT the same

Read what James wrote. Elby does not sell timed licenses. The one year reference has to do with the automatic license take-over when you install an update like what happens with SlySoft's keys. Elby has a limit on this function and would require support intervention if the one year is up. That doe NOT mean that the license expires or requires renewal.

    Not our playground

Yes, I can understand that. Whatever, it's up to Elby to decide that. AFAIK, nobody has been denied support at Elby after one year is up. If you want that statement clarified then you'll have to contact Elby support. We can't speak for them.

So after a year you can continue receiving updates and upgrades? ( i mean to ELby customers)

    Yes.

I purchased a license from them around 2004/5.
I've installed every version (whether stable & beta).

I've also contacted support a handful of times and always received a reply (the last time being around 2 or 3 years ago when CloneDVD2s interface opened in a random location on the screen).

... or simply nothing will happen at all. I'll be dead anyway, so I don't care much.

Yes. Since CloneDVD 1 (which IIRC was released in 2002?).

I happen to know what this is about. Legal blah. They can simply ignore stupid tech support questions, or charge for tech support, if your license is over a year old. Simple as that.

    Let's see...

We have a fox, they don't.
Our girls in support are sexier.
(I don't think, they even have a girl)
We have Frank in support. Frank rulez.
    We have nice bundle pricing.
    We have a support forum.
    We post beta versions.
(Which I have tested myself first. BTW, I am expensive.)
We are super nice people. Even friendly from time to time.

    :D

Yes they do, but not as quick as what can happen here on the Slysoft forum or in the official Slysoft support. I bought my copies of CloneDVD from Slysoft instead of directly from Elby because of what I see as superior customer support here; technical support and availability of betas being what really stands out for me.

I'm NOT bashing Elby, CloneDVD is one excellent software product, but have to admit I personally prefer the support here. The value of good support is worth the extra price IMO. YMMV, of course.
